What is the function of
a voice gateway?
Voice gateways are network hardware devices that provide the interface
between the enterprise LAN and the public switched telephone network.
This involved converting between packet based VoIP telephony and
circuit switched based TDM telephone trunks or analog telephone
lines.
What is the advantage of
the G.729 CODEC?
G.729 is a CODEC that compress the digitized voice signal to transmit
phone calls using much lower bandwidth than the standard G.711
CODEC. The tradeoff is a reduction in voice quality compared to
uncompressed voice, but quite acceptable to many users.
