When are Softphones useful?
A softphone is the function of a telephone set that runs as a
PC application. The softphone is especially valuable for mobile
workers who can make and receive telephone calls from WiFi Hotspots
using Softphones, a PC headset, and a VoIP service provider or
connection to the enterprise VoIP system
Which CODECs support FAX?
G.711, the most universally installed CODEC, supports FAX because
it has no compression of the signal. A newer T.38 CODEC was designed
to transport FAX by coding the picture signal for transmission
as an image file, not digitizing the analog FAX machine signal.
T./38 is not as commonly available as G.711.
