IP Telephony FAQ's:
When do you need an ATA?
An ATA, or Analog Telephone Adapter, is an interface device installed
between a regular analog telephone and a IP network. It contains
the CODECS that digitize and decode voice, a network interface
card, and circuitry to handle signaling. ATAs are also used to
provide VOIP phone service to single line telephones.
What is SIP Trunking?
A SIP trunk carries multiple VoIP phone calls from an enterprise
to another location, including third party call termination services.
SIP or Session Initiation Protocol, refers to the signaling protocol
that accompanies the voice packet stream.
