What are the leading VoIP
protocols?
The most popular are H.323, the original protocol established
by the International Telecommunications Union, and SIP or Session
Initiation Protocol, a text base protocol that is greatly simplified
by the more multimedia capable H.323.
Which CODECs support FAX?
G.711, the most universally installed CODEC, supports FAX because
it has no compression of the signal. A newer T.38 CODEC was designed
to transport FAX by coding the picture signal for transmission
as an image file, not digitizing the analog FAX machine signal.
T./38 is not as commonly available as G.711.
